About the producer
Hanan Million Getachew produced this lot in Buku, Hambella, alongside her mother, Asha, and a network of around 150 outgrower farmers and team members. In 2020 Hanan founded ASHKIM, an Ethiopian exporting company named after her mother and her sister, Kimiya, and the family now runs the business from Guji. Hanan is also a member of the Ethiopia Chapter of the International Women's Coffee Alliance, and ASHKIM gives the farmers she works with a direct path from their cherry to roasters abroad. This natural lot is full of purple fruit and fresh blueberries, with a round body and pleasant florals.
What makes this coffee stand out
At 2,200 metres, Buku is among the highest growing areas in Hambella, and the slow cherry maturation at that altitude builds density and sweetness. The cherries are dried whole until they look raisin-like, then hulled at 10–12% moisture, sorted by density and finished on raised beds, a careful natural process that keeps the fruit vivid without tipping into ferment. The variety, 74158, was selected by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre and released in 1979 from the Metu Bishari selections in Illuababora, prized for high yields and resistance to coffee berry disease. In the cup it shows exactly why Hambella naturals are so sought after: deep blueberry and purple fruit, a round, comforting body, and a clean floral lift.
Our light roasts develop their best flavors after 2 weeks, peak around 4 weeks, and remain delicious for weeks after. For extended freshness, consider freezing the coffee to preserve its quality even longer.
